"She would write poems for Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and even a 'Welcome Spring' poem," said Ms. Cornely. Cornely was known for her Christmas cookies and holiday poems that she composed for family members. "She wrote poems for all the holidays that were very touching," said Deborah I. Cornely, a daughter-in-law who was the managing editor of the Dundalk Eagle and is now the weekly's associate publisher. Cornely was later appointed chairman of the Maternal and Child Health Department at what was then the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Cornely moved to the Mercy Ridge retirement community in Timonium after her husband's death in 2003. They moved to Baltimore in 1965 and settled in Roland Park.
