Santa Claus, Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman were all on hand for the event and a multitude of children were treated to arts and crafts activities in a holiday setting. 30, the Salvation Army held a Christmas in July party at SouthPark Mall in Strongsville July 13. Though many people associate the Salvation Army to its red kettles and the Christmas season, the service it provides to communities is a year-round endeavor. Characterizing the Salvation Army as a “shield to the hungry and homeless,” Marilyn Ruckman, Greater Cleveland Advisory Board chairwoman, emphasized that critical problems facing the poor do not dissipate in the summer months. “People are homeless and in need of service all year long,” she said. Major Lurlene Kay Johnson, Salvation Army Divisional Secretary, delivered the keynote address.
