A relatively quick drop-in tide should make things surfing-friendly again around sunset, if the winds stay under control. The best opportunity for waves is to avoid peak crowd hours and time surf sessions with the unusual tides. Expect consistently inconsistent surf this weekend, as a stuttering south-southwest swell mingles with a weak northwest windswell. SURF BREAK. " Each crew must submit a video to Facebook of no more than five minutes in length that will capture the team's style, creativity and originality in one of three sports categories: surfing, skateboarding or BMX. As such, Santa Cruz is a natural location for Nike to promote its Chosen contest. The Soquel native hopes so. Last month, the Nike Chosen mobile tour truck and trailer rolled into our town, where, like Smith-Ford, most were born with a surfboard in one hand and a skateboard in the other. The Nike Chosen challenge is a worldwide video competition open to groups of no fewer than two and no more than four people, known as a "crew.
