Hamilton would always insist that whatever food she gave us would have spoiled if we didn't take it. Or she might say that she bought too big a roast for her family and would we help her eat it. Unlike traditional fabrics, quilt batting pieces need no hem or frey-check solution: a pair of wings can be cut directly from the scraps, feathered tips and all, without turning under the edges. The doll or animal shape can be cut quilt batting, the edges sewn together with a quarter-inch seam for strength. Quilt batting's thin white fabric is handy for countless projects beyond the quilter's needle, including hand-made holiday crafts and simple dolls of all sizes. Invert the doll and stuff, stretching the quilt batting as necessary to shape. While batting has a tendency to stretch or tear in comparison to traditional fabrics, some of these tendency may work to the advantage of the artist....
