This summer the de Saisset Museum opens four thought-provoking exhibitions that examine how artists have responded to homelessness since the 1930s. Through painting, printmaking, photography, and mixed media, Depression-era and contemporary artists offer glimpses of life on the street and call attention to the many similarities between the eras. Featuring works by 30 artists working over the last 75 years, this traveling show documents the tragedy of homelessness and the governments’ role in the crisis. During the Great Depression artists responded to the large numbers of poor and displaced people, often with the support of New Deal programs such as the Works Progress Administration, which funded their efforts to document what was happening... However, with the rise of homelessness in the modern era, artists once again focused their attention on this important issue.

Prometen un terreno para la familia que vive en un carro

Una pareja con su hijo y seis sobrinos pasó ayer el día más frío del año en un carro sanguchero que les sirve de techo en el barrio Santa Clara de Asís. La familia permanece en un terreno cercano al río Arenales y asegura que está en condiciones de edificar una vivienda si le adjudican un lote a costo accesible de los que entrega el Estado a personas necesitadas. El coordinador de Tierras y Bienes Patrimoniales de la Provincia, Sergio Usandivaras, dijo a El Tribuno que se está buscando un terreno para la pareja y los niños. La mañana de ayer llegó con las temperaturas más bajas de 2011 y los meteorólogos hablan de una ola polar que durará varios días. Mientras tanto, la mujer que está a cargo de los niños sigue analizando la posibilidad de dejarlos en un instituto estatal.
