The Old Market Hall, right on the harbour, about 100 metres from Market Square, has an impressive selection of reindeer products. So, if a Finnish vegetarian tells you that it is OK to eat reindeer, I decide that it must be case closed. Before we leave for Helsinki, I tell myself that I am not going to be eating reindeer. Market Square is a cheery, colourful open-air market. The following night at city restaurant Nokka, I try their uncooked, thinly sliced marinated reindeer with icecream. "Finns also enjoy it. Besides, unlike a lot of other animals whose meat is consumed, reindeer roam free. A young Finn I meet on our first night persuades me that it's OK. "It's not only tourists who eat it," she says.
