Well, it is the time of year when individuals begin to notice Christmas tree ornaments looking bags on trees. Female bagworms are wingless and never leave the bag while the male bagworm is winged and travels to fertilize the eggs of the female. Eggs hatch from old bags left from previous years as new bags are created by other bagworms. Each female bagworm can produce more than 1,000 bagworms. If you haven't already, take a few moments and scout your trees to see if you have any bagworms. These bags often go unnoticed as they are made up of silken threads and bits of leaves, allowing them to blend in with the tree. Eggs stay in the female bags over winter to start the process the next year. Bagworms are caterpillars that live inside spindle-shaped bags which they construct to protect themselves against birds and other enemies.

Christmas tree worms are embedded in the surface of corals by the calcareous, shell-like tubes in which they live. At the slightest disturbance, the Christmas tree worm retracts into its tube in the coral for safety. My favorite thing about these worms is their variety of vibrant colors and patterns- check it out.   They have two beautiful, feathery spirals (which look like little Christmas trees) that extend into the water column and are used for filter-feeding and breathing.
