The group were booked to perform a concert tour of Japan in January 1980, but Macca didn’t want to do the tour: despite live performances in Britain a month before, he felt that the band were under-rehearsed. Paul McCartney didn’t know it himself, but the Wings performance at the Hammersmith Odeon, London on the closing night of the Concerts for the People of Kampuchea on 29 December 1979 would be the last time that Wings would ever perform live or... “There was something going wrong, something was trying to tell me something. But it was not to be: on arrival in Japan on 16 January 1980, he was arrested when clearing customs for possession of a large quantity of marijuana, and spent 10 days in a Japanese gaol. He didn’t feel ready to put on a really good show for Japanese audiences, and planned on rehearsing after arrival in Tokyo. To his relief, the tour was cancelled.
